The best places to enjoy the beaches and their various maritime ecosystems are Varadero, Cayo Santa María, Cayo Coco, Cayo Guillermo or Cayo Largo del Sur.
According to estimates, more than 50% of Cubans are Christians, which is why Easter (or Holy Week) in Cuba is very important. Cubans flock to churches across the country to celebrate this traditional date for Christian churches. Among the most prominent are those of processions from Camagüey and Trinidad.
Tour the historic center of the city of Camagüey together with the entire community who gather for the Procesión del Santo Sepulcro (Procession of the Holy Sepulcher). From the Plaza de la Merced (Merced Square), in front of the Iglesia de la Merced Church to the Iglesia de la Soledad Church, thousands of people advance along with a legendary silver relic made in 1763, along with bands and parades that accompany this procession. This exciting tradition is a great time for religious and non-religious people to get to know the Cuban people and their centuries-old customs up close.
In the city of Trinidad, Holy Week grabs a lot of attention from citizens and tourists. There are processions that start from the upper part of the city in the Iglesia Parroquial de la Santísima Trinidad (Parish Church of the Holy Trinity). The procession carried out on Good Friday maintains a certain seriousness and silence, but Easter Sunday is a day full of joy and drumming throughout this patrimonial city, to honor the Risen Christ but also Saint John, who is also celebrated in the city during the month of June.
Cuba, despite being a secular country, has a deep religious tradition, mainly Catholic, which has produced as one of its precious results, churches, parishes and cathedrals basilicas and temples with Spanish and French influence in times of colonization. Some of the most beautiful buildings are: the Basilica Nuestra Señora del Cobre (Basilica of Our Lady of Copper) in Santiago de Cuba, the Catedral de la Virgen María de la Concepción Inmaculada (Cathedral of the Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception) in Havana, the Convento de San Francisco de Asís (Convent of San Francisco de Asís) in Havana and Nuestra Señora de la Merced (Our Lady of Mercy) in Old Havana. They are generally found in the historic center of the cities, in the central squares; and in some provinces, even some ruins or remodeling of churches from the 16th century are preserved.
Holy Week occurs between the months of March and April, which is precisely the transitory period of the two seasons in Cuba. Although April marks the beginning of the rainy season, the vast majority of the island enjoys a pleasant and slightly cooler climate, ideal for the beach and for tourism in the city. Temperatures range from 24-31° C.
The north of the island has a pleasant climate, with cooler mornings and nights, ideal for touring the cities and exploring nature. During noon is the warmest time, so it is a good time to take a refreshing swim in the paradisiacal beaches or rivers.
In the south of the island, the climate varies a bit, because although during the day the climate is good, during the afternoon it is usually a little more humid and at night it usually rains.
