Mayabeque is the smallest province of Cuba. It is a productive place: citrus fruits, snuff, wine grapes, and sugar cane for Havana Club rum are grown at the distillery in this province.
Tourists, mostly Cubans, travel here attracted by its beautiful sandy beaches and resorts of Playa Jibacoa Beach, which offers beachside accommodation at a much more affordable price than in Varadero.
Inside the region is a much more agricultural and everyday environment, which highlights some scenic wonders such as its beautiful gardens, the area of Jaruco and Puente de Bacunayagua Bridge.
The best time to visit Mayabeque is from December to April, when you can enjoy excellent beaches. Apart from the beaches already mentioned, the province is also interesting for hosting a spectacular classical railroad: the Hershey train, crossing the warm and relaxed countryside of Matanzas.
Just a piece of advice when you visit the province: get used to live like the locals in a much slower and fascinating pace .
1. A stroll to the beach and enjoy staying a few in the camping cottage Los Cocos, nearby Playa Jibacoa Beach
2. Run away from the tourist hustle and make the Hershey railroad
3. Enjoy the scenery and the atmosphere of La Habana like its inhabitants, who spend the weekend in Parque de las Escaleras de Jaruco Park
