Torreón de San Lázaro Turret, also known as Torreón de la Caleta Turret, is a monumental 18th century watchtower located in Vedado, Havana.
This monumental tower was built by the engineer Marcos Lucio de Nueva España in 1665. It was built as a defensive watchtower to spot enemy ships and worked as a nexus between La Punta Castle and La Chorrea Fortress, at a time when pirates attacks were constant.
It has this name as it was erected over the land previously occupied by a leper colony.
Its construction from a perfect stonework cylinder in three levels, with several loopholes on its second level; and a sturdy barricade with several embrasures on the top floor.
Nowadays it is part of a park in honor of a general of the War of Independence, Antonio Maceo.
