Founded in 1978 in which was the former house of the olympic sportsman Carlos Leyva, this monument is raised to honour the victims of the well-known Barbados Crime, which took place the 6th October 1976. In this air terrorist act died 73 people, among them the fencers Carlos Miguel Leyva González and Leonardo Mckenzie Grant.

The importance and the interest of this house-museum, lies in its aim to rescue, keep and maintain the patrimonial goods. For this, it takes under consideration two main functions: to disclose the local and national history and, maybe the most important one, promote in the youths the knowledge of the life of the victims of Barbados.

When you enter in the museum you will see it is divided in three rooms destined to different exhibitions. The first one is dedicated to remember the crime, show photographies, proofs and other elements which assert the cruelty and truthness of the attack. The second one exhibits personal objects of the fencers, while the third one is focused on the exhibition of motifs related with their professional lives and also the ones of other sports delegation members who also passed away on the plane; just as their performance in the IV Centroamerican and Caribbean Championship, pre-matching meeting from where they were returning the day of the attack.

With all this, the visit is not just reduced to the museum, since in the house courtyard it has been set up the sculpture names ‘Our deaths raising their arms’ made by the artist from Matanzas Juan Heznart Hedrich and it was awarded with the National Award of the National Room of the Cuban Writers and Artist Union.
