Visit the famous El Cornito Motel, former solar of the poet Juan Cristóbal Nápoles Fajardo, known as El Cucalambé

One of the must-visit historical places in Las Tunas. The El Cornito space, which is named this way because of the stream that runs through it, is the Cucalambé Park, where the poet Joan Cristóbal Nápoles Fajardo was born.

To arrive from this point, you have to follow an 8 kilometers path built with the most exotic and characteristic flora of the region, specially the bamboo. This road dates from 1969 and was built to connect the city with el Cornito.

Around 1930, different cultural organizations began to gather in the place to commemorate the birth of the poet every 1st July, growing this way different igneous traditions. Year later, the Conferences acquired more body and more strength, adding La Flor de Birama Flower, a sort of misses competition very successful in Las Tunas, and a year later the El Cucalambé en Décima National Competition, the first rural music festival which praises the farmers’ dances and games most customary in the province.

It is the place where each year take place the traditional Cucalambeanas Days, dedicated to the Cuban farmers. Furthermore, it counts with amphitheater in a soft hill surrounded by a rich vegetation; restaurants and great quality statues which remember the most bucolic tradition in the province. Among other sculpture works stand out the mythical ‘Contrapuestas Figueras or Cabezas de Indio’ by José Fuentes, set up in one of the park’s elevations in the entrance of the farm of El Cornito; the ‘Taína Column’ by Pedro Vega or ‘Trovador Campesino’ by Ángel Íñigo, among many others.
