The Castillo de San Salvador de La Punta Castle rises over Havana Port, being part of the defensive system composed of four fortresses that defend Havana Port. It was designed by the Italian military engineer Giovanni Bautista Antonelli, and was built between 1589 and 1600.
During Colonial times there was a 250-meter-long chain extended everyday to Tres Reyes del Morro Castle to close the entrance of the port to boats.
Nowadays, San Salvador de La Punta Castle houses the Castle Museum, exhibiting several objects from sunken Spanish fleets, as well as a collection of scale models of boats and information about how did slave trade work.
