Bus services are a reliable and effective way of moving in Cuba, especially in very popular areas.
The main bus company in Cuba that can be used by non-Cubans is Viazul. The company offers routes to the most interesting places, and features services such as AC. Viazul buses tend to be on time. Tickets are paid in CUC, and stops are done for lunch and dinner.
Several touristic destinations feature touristic buses linking the local highlights. These tours are normally 25 CUP per daily ticket. In the most touristic areas such as La Havana or Varadero, buses have two decks and an open top floor.
All these are organized by the national company Transtur. For more information, contact 7-831-7333 or www.transtur.cu.
For short range tours, Cubans use regional buses, which are paid in Cuban pesos. They are less comfortable and punctual, but much more comfortable. The regional buses tend to stop in each city’s bus stop. Schedules and costs tend to change, and you should check them on every station.
