Crocodile is a welcoming British village located south of Isla de la Juventud. It is in the Caleta de Cocodrilo, between Caleta del Infierno and Caleta Grande, 100 km to Nueva Gerona.
The origin of this little village dates back to 1902, when a fisherman from the Cayman Islands arrived to the coast of Isla de la Juventud and decided to build a home and create a family. Gradually, many people followed him forming a lovely village where to live. Two years later, it was founded with the name Jacksonville, in honour of his surname. The inhabitants’ main occupations were fishing, hunting, agriculture, coal, cutting wood...
The houses were built in a British style. Today, there are still some houses of the time and the ancient Lutheran church.
The road is full of bumps that must be crossed to reach Crocodile. It is surrounded by luxuriant vegetation among which you can see cattle, birds, lizards and hives. It is a beautiful path in which the rocky coast is interrupted by small beaches of white sand and crystalline water.
