The Cementerio La Reina (La Reina Cemetery) is the oldest cemetery in Cienfuegos. Established in 1837, this is where Spanish soldiers who died during the war of independence go to rest.
The cemetery is a National Monument and features a marble statue known as “Sleeping Beauty”, in homage to a woman who died at the tender age of 24 in 1907 from a broken heart.
To get to the cemetery, you should take Avenida (Avenue) 50, a long street where you can go by foot or in a horse-drawn carriage. On you way, you will pass an interesting collection of trains known as the Museo de Locomotivas (Locomotive Museum).
