Although most of the Cienfuegos province is located in the green Sierra del Escambray, only this small but beautiful protected area can be visited. El Nicho is an enclave of the Parque Natural Topes de Collantes. Its name comes from a beautiful waterfall of crystalline waters that there is in the río Hanabanilla, Cuba.
Index:
To get to the waterfall you have to walk along a beautiful natural trail a little over a kilometre long, known as the Reino de las Aguas, along which you can discover the exuberant fauna and flora of the area, such as Cuban trogon and palmiches. To rest from your walk, you can take a refreshing swim in the many natural pools you will find, such as the Poceta de los Enamorados. In addition, there are numerous caves waiting to be discovered.
After the intense day in nature you can recharge your batteries in the ranch-style restaurant, where you can taste delicious local dishes.
Although El Nicho can be reached from both Cienfuegos and Trinidad, we recommend that you come from Cienfuegos, as the road is more direct and you won't have to go through mountainous areas with irregular stretches.
If you go by private car you can leave it at the entrance, in a parking area available. Another option is to go by taxi or shared car. The most ideal way is to leave Cienfuegos, stop at El Nicho and continue to Trinidad, as you are more or less halfway between these two cities.
