The Sierra de Escambray Range is a mountainous system of the central area of Cuba. It was previously known as Guamuhaya by the indigenous who inhabited the area when the Spaniards arrived in 1492.

Its highest point if the Pico Potrerillo Pike, of 930 meter above the sea level. This range is characterized for its exuberant vegetation which counts with deep valleys, great cave systems, the beautiful landscape, the rivers and the crystalline water waterfalls.

Stands out the Caballete de Casa Meseta, where during the Cuban Revolution was set up the Che Guevara’s basis camp. Nowadays is a national monument which has preserved this historical installments, although its access it is not easy since it is necessary to arrive on foot climbing to the top of the mountain.
