Jardines de la Reina is the most virgin archipelago of those surrounding the Cuban island. It is located in the Southern coast of the island, in the Antilles Sea. It is made up of 661 big and small Cays, of which Algodón Grande Cay, Cinco Balas Cay, Anclitas Cay and Granada Cay stand out.
It was Christopher Columbus who named the archipelago in honour of the Spanish queen Isabella I of Castile.
This cluster of coral islands comprises virgin areas that remain more or less the same as in the times of the discovery of America. The flora of Jardines de la Reina is made up of palm trees, pines, beach grapes and mangroves, and the flora consists of iguanas and non-migratory birds like pelicans, common spoonbills, and herons, as well as sharks, that together with the corals and crystalline waters are a great tourist attraction for divers from all over the world.
