The monumental building housing the Decorative Arts Museum was built in the corner zero of Ciego de Ávila during the peak of construction in the city, between 1928 and 1930. The architecture of the museum is characterized by being one of the most elegant constructions in Eclectic architecture from Ávila.
This institution was built to work as a lyceum, but it was never used like that. With the Revolution, the building was used with several purposes, such as library, people’s house, social circle, students house or even a disco. The Asturian Center was its owner during more than 30 years, a place where aids for the development of the community were offered. The Asturian Center turned into the present-days museum on July 24th 2002.
The refined collection it exhibits is made up by original items from previous ages but also old pocket watches or canopy beds adorned with mother of pearl inlays.
