Lenin Park, with its 670 hectares of lush forests, is the largest leisure area of Havana. It is located in Arroyo Naranjo, around 20 kilometers away from Central Havana.
The Revolutionary Government built it between 1969 and 1972. Here is where many local families spend their weekends. This vast park is features a theme park, an aquarium, several cinemas, a children’s puppet theatre, an amazing artificial lake where you can rent boats, a horse-riding area, several courts, art galleries, and many restaurants and bars. Besides that, it’s possible to go over a small part of the park riding a narrow train along a 9-kilometer-long circuit. The train operates from Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 3pm.
Among the main attractions in the area are the Amelia Peláez Art Gallery (entrance is 1CUC), the 1984 monument to Lenin, by L.E. Kerbel, the Aquarium (2 CUC, open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm), where live fresh water fish and several crocodiles. Also check out the monument to Cecilia Sánchez, the ceramics workshop, the Rodeo Nacional, where the best rodeos are held in Cuba, and the Feria Agropecuaria (Farming and Breeding Fair).
Near the park, you can find Expocuba, some of the best exhibition rooms in Cuba, the National Botanic Garden and the National Zoo.
How to get there:
Lenin Park can be reached by bus, car, or taxi. The bus is not the best way, since line P-13, that has the closest stops, has to be taken in Vívora, a kind of far spot. To get to Vívora, you can take line P-9, which stops in streets 23 and L.
Riding a cab is easier, since those in Havana are used to driving along these roads, and you can arrange a nice price to come to Lenin Park for around 25CUC.
