San Lázaro Sanctuary is an ideal place for one of the most important peregrinations in Cuba.
This temple is sheltered in the town of El Rincón, lacking any lavish decoration. In the interior is San Lázaro, also known as Babalú Ayé, a Orisha in santería, well known for being the patron saint of healing and caring for the poor.
Its festivity takes place on December 17th, where dozens of thousands of Cubans come to this sanctuary. Next to the sanctuary stands a hospital where those affected by leprosy and other skin conditions are treated.
