The National Zoo of Cuba, located in Calabazar, Havana, has improved greatly in recent years as it had received several donations of animals from different countries such as Namibia.
This zoo is different from other ones in the country due to the fact that it allows animals to cohabit (as long as their nature allows it) and it is free of fences or bars
Its facilities occupy a total of 340 hectares filled with vegetation and leafy trees where they live a total of 130 species of native birds, exotic animals and endangered species, among which you will find vultures, rhinos, ostriches, lions, leopards, hyenas, foxes, antelopes and elephants.
The animals receive an excellent treatment as in the park they are carried out investigations to ensure reproduction and animal husbandry that focus in proper nutrition and veterinary care.
Visiting this zoo is something highly recommended if you are in that area of the island and you have time to spend, specially if you are travelling with kids. The visit is not only limited to watching animals, educational and recreational activities are also held such as interactive games, talks about the animal kingdom, series of conferences using interactive media, etc.
