This turret (“Torreón de Cojímar” in Spanish) overlooks the port of Cojímar, in the region of Havana, Cuba.
It is a Spanish fortress from 1649 that is nowadays used by Cuban coastguards.
his was the first fortress, also known was Cojímar Fort, of the network of defense of Havana, now listed as World Heritage by UNESCO. It is interesting to know that this was the first fortress taken by the British when they attacked Havana in 1762.
Near the tower, surrounded by a Neoclassical arch, is the bust of Ernest Hemingway, made by the locals of Cojímar in 1962.
