Located on a hill known as Punta de Yarey Pike, it is the first fortress built for the defense and shelter of the city in 1817. It is considered that the creation of this military construction was the one which favored the origin of the Village of Gibara, by offering the security seeked for the inhabitants of the area.
Suffering successive restorations since its creation until the beginning of the 21st century, the Fernando VII Fort has become one of the most significant monuments for the beautiful city of Gibara.
