The origins of this building go back to Juan Manuel Domínguez Dumois, coming from Santiago de Cuba, who arrived to Banes during the reconstruction of the city at the beginning of the 20th century.
Beginning as employee of the United Fruit, Domínguez Dumois ended up being a rich landlord who donated the land for the construction of the square in 1931. This fact gave rise to the fact that the square was opened as Domínguez Park on his honour. However, at the end of the park was raised a platform which changed the whole structure of the place and was opened the commemorative statue of the National Hero José Martí at the entrance of the park.
Thus, the Park ended up being Martí Plaza, due to the people of Banes needed a square and considered that this place was the best option for this. Nowadays it has different names, but everybody visit it to have walks in the afternoons in Banes.
