Declared National Monument in 1991, this is a must visit, exceptional place on your visit to the city of Banes, better known as Cuba’s Archeological Capital.
It is the most famous archeological site in the West of Cuba located in the Cerro de Yaguajay Hill where, from the different galleries of the place, you can see on the one side the archeological plot and on the other one the cemetery, discovered in 1986 by the Center-Wester Archeology Department of the Science Academy of Cuba directed by José M. Guarch, which exhibits 56 of the more of 100 skeletons as they had been found in the area.
On the other hand, it is one of the settlements where there were found the biggest evidences of aboriginal potter farmers settlement of the villages located in the surrounding hills. The reasons of the population are mainly the presence of potable water, the fertility of the floor and the climate.
One of the main attractives of the place is the supposition that it its the first place where there was hindo-hispanic touch, since in addition to Spanish objects, there are also Christian and non-Christian burials, objects coming from other cultures such as Venezuelan one, a European skull possible from a Spanish who lived with the tribe, or a curious 1,76 meters skeleton, disproportionately to belong to an aboriginal tribe.
It is supposed that the place dates from the end of 1440 to 1540, then it is developed previously and afterwards the Spanish presence.
Discover one of the most enigmatic places of Cuba and enjoy the beautiful views seen from the Cerro de Yaguajay Hill.
