The Parque Gonzalo de Quesada (Gonzalo de Quesada Park), popularly known as Parque Casino Campestre (Casino Campestre Park), is located at the other side of the bridge that crosses the river Hatibonico, from the historic center of Camagüey. The green heart of the city is a place for memories and the bigger urban park throughout Cuba.
The park was designed in 1860 and counts with several benches under the shade, a baseball stadium, concerts and other activities. Furthermore, it gathers in its interior leafy trees, beautiful statues and historical tokens.
One of the most highlighted monuments is located in a roundabout near the entrance to the park. It is dedicated to the Spanish airmen Mariano Barberán and Joaquín Collar, main protagonists of the first nonstop flight between Spain and Cuba in 1933, specifically, between Sevilla and Camagüey. A week later, the plane tragically disappeared in its way to Mexico and both men with it.
