The Refugio de Fauna Silvestre Río Máximo (Río Máximo Wildlife Park), recently known as Sitio Ramsar, is located in the marshes between the rivers Máximo and Camagüey, in the northern coast in the province of Camagüey, Cuba. The area has difficult access and barely has got roads.
The Máximo River delta is one of the nestling places of the flamingos in the world. It is a worthy of admiration place due to the uncountable and diverse species of water migratory birds, the American crocodiles and the colony of manatees.
It is protected since 1998 and its future is not easy because of the human and agrarian contamination. Very few people know it, and even less visit it, but it’s really worth the visit.
