Just in the core of the city of Camagüey, the dazzling Parque Ignacio Agramonte (Ignacio Agramonte Park) stands so attractive for visitors with its white marble benches and an equestrian statue of Ignacio Agramonte, one of the protagonists of the Independence war. Made of bronze and pink granite from Bavento, the sculpture is a work of the Italian sculptor Salvatore Buemi.
In the park, you can feel the respect of an entire people. You can see four palms that remind of the four patriots shot for having taken part on the first independence uprising of Camagüey in 1851. In those times, Cuban people weren’t allowed to raise statues to their martyrs so they did it secretly, choosing this tree as a symbol of the future freedom of the country.
