The Sierra de Órganos mountain range, 5 kilometers to the west of San Diego de Baños, is located in the center of a splendid protected expanse, and here you’ll find an abandoned and decaying manor house that was once the Hacienda Cortina Ranch, La Güíra Park.
José Manuel Cortina, lawyer and diplomat, built the house in the 1920s. Some areas are still preserved in their initial state.
The house is a strange ensemble due to the blend of European and Asian cultural styles, and the presence of Medieval elements found on its façade.
Some of the decorations were taken down and are now exhibited in the museums of Pinar del Río. Although it was originally conceived blend in to landscape, its strange appearance is what makes it stand out.
Its privileged location in a lush mountain area, carefully selected by the architect, has turned La Güíra into a paradise for birds such as the nightingale and lesser known local birds.
