25 kilometers north of Viñales is the picturesque Puerto Esperanza, a quiet area and almost unknown by tourists. This area is mostly focused on fishing, farming, and tobacco production.
Life in Puerto Esperanza continues as it did back in 1952, so you’ll feel like you’ve travelled back in time while walking along the road leading to the town, flanked by mango trees planted in 1800.
Puerto Esperanza has developed a cultural project, La Camorra, which encompasses several activities. Amongst these, it would be especially worthwhile enjoying a group session of traditional rural and creole music from the group Los Tiburoneros, formed by locals. Their music blends together the most representative aspects of the culture of Puerto Esperanza, and will grant you unprecedented access to its heritage.
