San Diego de los Baños is a tiny village found amongst a landscape of great natural beauty, meeting point of the Sierra del Rosario and Sierra de Güira mountain ranges, as well as a natural reserve of pine, mahogany, and cedar trees.
Here you’ll find one of Cuba’s most famous spas. Its strategic location, being close to Havana, has helped increase its popularity, it being established as permanent spa in 1981.
It was discovered during the colonial period, as are most other Cuban spas. Legend goes that a sick slave was the healed by the waters, and thus their magical properties were revealed.
During the first half of the 20th century, it was a popular destination for US tourists. San Diego de los Baños’ surroundings are also brimming with interesting places, it having at least two must-visit places: La Güíra Park and Los Portales Cave.
