Dos Ríos is a little city belonging to the municipality of Juguaní, famous for having witnessed the murder of José Martí, whom died of a shot on the 19th May 1895. It is located 22km Northeast from the city of Jiguaní and at 57 km from Bayamo.
In order to keep alive his memory, four months after his death was erected an 8 meters height obelisk in substitution of the rustic wooden cross erected by Máximo Gómez, which points out the place where the revolutionary hero lost his life.
Commemorating the anniversary of his death, every 19th May, the people from Granma and other neighbour provinces go on a pilgrimage which goes all over the road followed by José Martí from the landing in Playitas de Cajobabo towards the place where he lost his life fighting to achieve the Independence from Spain.
