Actually it is the main street General Calixto García, but it is popularly known as Paseo Bayamés Promenade since it became a pedestrian zone by the end of the 90s of the 20th century.
Since its opening, the Promenade is one of the most frequented places for the natives just as the tourists, since it is the main commercial street and, furthermore, is located a few minutes away from the theater.
The facades which go all over the promenade have colourful murals and hots different restaurants, curious commerces such as some dedicated to the selling of cages, birds, coloured fishes; some sewing workshops, with sewing machines from the 19th century; there are also book shops or the typical traveling stands which make the promenade more lively. The most cultural part of the street is hosted in the wax museum and the archaeology museum, which are on the same street.
Of course, the central part is also decorated with statues, benches to rest and little green areas located all along the promenade.
In one of the walls you can see the commemorative plaque for the General Calixto García.
Do not hesitate in visiting this original boulevard located in the main street of the beautiful city of Bayamo.
