Opened in 1982, the Provincial Museum is located in the historical center of the city of Bayamo, beside the Manuel de Céspedes Museum-House.
On its inside are hosted different exhibitions about the history of the regions, especially the fire of the city in 1869 when the Mambises prefered to burn it down rather than surrender to the Spaniards. The museum treasures part of the historical heritage of the province.
Thus, in this absorbing monument you can find a 1597 document or a picture of the city of Bayamo after the fire. There is an especial tour about the Colonial age, how the slaves lived or the 1868 war. However, in the end, it is about the historical evolution of the stunning regions, therefore you will find from archaeological objects, to pieces or Colonial art such as silverwares or embroideries, beside a part dedicated to the natural sciences. Furthermore, all these go accompanied by a summary about the revolutionary fights and the most outstanding heroes who participated on them.
Do not miss the chance of visiting one of the most important museums of the city and the history of Bayamo.
