The highly interesting Bahía de Cochinos (Cochinos Bay) full of revolutionary history is located on an opening into the captivating Cazones Gulf, in the southwest side of Cuba. The failed 1961 invasion, planned by the Us and led by counter-revolutionaries trained by the CIA, took place on its beaches.
The legend goes that its name comes from the existence of a large number of Jibaro animals in the territory before any of its inhabitants arrived.
Nowadays it is an ideal place to practice diving and, as the area has many wonderful beaches such as Playa Girón Beach and Playa Larga Beach. Its crystalline waters are hidden within its interior coral formations along with caverns less than 50 meters from the shore that stretch from one beach to the other, and which host a rich array of marine life. You’ll also discover on the seabeds shipwrecks and other maritime secrets.
It has around 30 areas for diving, but you’ll also enjoy natural pools formed by floods from old caverns without a ceiling.
For some years now, the bay has an International Diving Center for those who wish to learn and practice this incredible sport. For those who suffer seasickness, there is a 300 meter high natural wall with a drop of 30 meters from the shore in order to practice diving without a boat.
Visit one of the best areas for diving, where you’ll enjoy wonderful accommodation next to the coast.
