The Puente de la Concordia Bridge was created to connect the Versailles and Matanzas quarters which are separated by the Yumurí River. This artwork is considered by many as one of the most beautiful structures of the time.
The Concordia Bridge, today known as José Lacret Morlot to honor the general who participated in the Ten Years’ War, was opened in 1878. Its iron structure was forged in the US while its four cylindrical columns of stone were sculpted by the architect Pedro Celestino del Pandal.
The relevance of this piece which forms part of the town’s architectural heritage is very apparent and miniature models of the turrets are awarded yearly by the people’s assembly to important people from the city who have helped develop the town or country.
