Located in the tourist resort of Guamá, in the Tesoro Lagoon in the Zapata's Peninsula Nature Park, you’ll find this successful crocodiles colony run by Ministry of Fishing Industries, Guamá Crocodile Colony.
This place houses more than 10,000 specimens spread out into different areas depending on their size. The two species in this colony are the Crocodylus rhombifer, native to Cuba and the Crocodylus acutus, a caimán species typical in Tropical America.
On its 45 minute guided tour you’ll learn how they live, how they are hunted, and how they are fed; you’ll even have the chance to touch them.
Thanks to the Guamá Crocodile Colony, which has been open since 1962, these two species have been able to survive, as before this date they were an endangered species
Furthermore, in the Boca de Guamá complex you’ll have the chance to taste crocodile meat or buy several objects relating to this extraordinary reptile. What's more, don’t forget to ask for a receipt for anything you buy made with crocodile skin to prove to the customs authorities the material comes from the farm and not wild crocodiles.
Don’t miss the chance to visit the Treasure Lagoon and enjoy a one of a kind day next to this exotic animal.
