In Matanzas, Cuba, approximately 13 km from the Cochinos Bays, you will find the Playa Larga Beach, a large, 4km-long sandy area, famous, amongst other things, for being the stage of a skirmish in which a group of Americans, on the 17th April 1961, tried to take control of the beach, but were repelled by the Cuban people.
Playa Larga Beach is the typical Cuban postcard image: calm clean waters, white sand, palm trees and the exotic vegetal cloak which blanket the surrounding area.
Nevertheless, some elements give this beach its own identity: the Laguna de las Salinas Lake, where some birds take refuge from the harsh winter, and a fantastic coral reef which surrounds the bay, distinguished from the others by the presence of the enormous whale shark which swims in its waters. It is not dangerous and you can touch it if you like.
You will not have any problems finding accommodation, as many houses offer to accommodate guests in their rooms. You will also find a little hotel at a reasonable price if you want more privacy.
