The Museo de la Comandancia (Comandancia Museum) is located in the former offices of a sugar mill in Matanzas. In 1961, during the Cohinos Bay invasion, Fidel Castro moved his headquarters to this building that nowadays stands as a revolutionary museum.
Inside the museum, several objects used by Fidel Castro to organize his troops as well as the weapons employed to prevent the invasion are on display. The museum is divided into five showrooms with permanent exhibits that narrate the great feat that took place on April 1961.
Along the road to the Cochinos Bay, memorials commemorate the place where soldiers died. What’s more, outside the Comandancia Museum, there are the remains of an enemy aircraft shot down by Fidel Castro’s troops.
