Echoes of the battle that took place on the Playa Girón Beach, Matanzas, resound in the Museo de Playa Girón (Playa Girón Beach Museum), the first battle in which Fidel Castro twisted the arm of American Imperialism.
If you are interested in the history of Cuba, you should visit this museum, since its walls summarize an important part of it through the testimonies remaining from the moment in which Cuba tasted the victory for the first time.
The museum is made up of two rooms which contain photographs and great objects of great interest, especially a mural to victims and a collection of samples of what remains of their belongings.
A 15 minute film which gives some informative and clarifying data about what happened during those days, and the make-up of the area, even today, indicates that Cuban defensive strategies were amazing.
At the museum’s exit, you will have the chance to have a look at some of the arms used in battle, a plane and some ships.
