The Fundación de la Naturaleza y el Hombre (Nature and Mankind Foundation) is a civil Cuban non-profit society, founded in 1994 by the scientist and writer Antonio Núñez Jiménez. Its mission is to develop the environmental conscience that recognises nature as part of its identity.
It includes the Canoe Museum, which hosts a little collection about the fascinating 17,422 km canoe trip done by Antonio Núñez Jiménez in 1987, from the Amazon to the Caribbean. Unbelievably, he crossed 10 countries from Ecuador to the Bahamas. He was assisted by 432 men and two twin vessels: Bolívar and Hatuey. The last one, a 13-metre-long boat, is displayed in the exhibition.
Thanks to the foundation, we have also the Biblioteca Antonio Núñez Jiménez (Library), a geographical, historical and cultural bibliographical fund. Finally, there are also lecture series and social and cultural projects.
