La Lucha Contra los Bandidos National Museum is set up in the former 18th century San Francisco Convent. The most characteristic thing of the building is its yellow bell tower, the only remain from the original building from where you can enjoy wonderful panoramic views.
This museum, opened in 1984, exhibits through photographs, maps, weapons and other fight objects of the Castro military against the counterrevolutionary gangs who in the 60s operated in the Sierra de Escambray Range.
it counts with 6 exhibition rooms which deal with the process of the Cuban Independence from 1962 on and the fight against Bandidos. On the inside courtyard you can see pieces such a GAZ 63 truck, a pirate boat formula-type, or a fragment of the U-2 plane knocked over during the 1962 Missile Crisis.
Its documentary center has been cosigned by the Minister of Interior and the National Institute of History as center of National Reference for researchers on the topic.
There are activities to interact with the visitors: speciality in pre-Hispanic and colonial archeology, talks, conferences, specialised visits, tours through the Ingenios Valley and the city and cultural amusement activities outside of the headquarters.
