Parque Leoncio Vidal (Leoncio Vidal Park) is located in the old city of Santa Clara, Villa Clara.
Its name comes from the Cuban patriot Leoncio Vidal Caro, who died fighting in 1896 in what was known as “Plaza de Recreo” (Recreation Square) until the time of his death. In the 30s and until the success of the Revolution, it was where student, worker and public protests took place. For centuries, Leoncio Vidal Park has been on remembered with as much high as low spirits.
It has many historical monuments, such as a wooden replica of the Eiffel Tower; or La Glorieta, built in 1911 and which nowadays is still used as a place for the city’s musical ensemble and grandparents who go to listen to Cuban danzón (the official musical genre and dance of Cuba). There is also the bronze statue in honor of well-known patriot Marta de los Ángeles Abreu de Estévez, and a bust made in respect for Colonel Leoncio Vidal, made in Italy and a also with a tribute in La Farola.
