Situated in the main square of Caibarién, Cuba, and the most relevant site in the city, Museo Municipal María Escibar Laredo (María Escobar Laredo Municipal Museum) shows us the glory days of this humble location, The institution was founded in January 1981 and named “María Escobar Laredo”.
Nowadays, it is located in the Lyceum building, the previous headquarters of the Caibarién Society Lyceum and an architectural jewel eclectic in style from 1926. The museum houses important collections about history, archeology, art, documents, weapons, numismatic, publications, and photography.
It stands out for housing the largest glass negatives collection in the world, belonging to well-known photographer Martínez Otero, and through which we can discover local, Cuban and world history. It also has a room for temporary exhibitions and a space dedicated to recent plastic arts.
