The military fortress of Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca, also known as Castle of Morro, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 for its great value historical and architectural.
It was known formerly as the Museum of piracy, but changed its name, to adapt to the new general content of the museum in accordance with the environment where it is located.
It was built in 1638 to protect the Bay of Santiago as a series of fortifications, forming the most complete and best preserved fortress in the XVII century military architecture.

The castle used to have a chapel which it has been recreated and displays a carved wooden Christ seventeenth century.
