The Plaza de la Revolución was opened in 1991 and is made of two different spaces, an outside one dedicated to great concentrations of people, and an inside one which works as museum and room for diverse activities.
In the outside area of the square, you can distinguish the concentration area, the monumental compound, the sculptor compound and the enclosure of the eternal flame. On the other area, you can find the exhibition room, the protocol room and the private room.
In the concentration area you will find a wide enclosure for around 150,000 people with green areas and frames of pavement and granite. The monumental compound is constituted by the staircase, the tribune, the sculptor compound and the enclosure of the eternal flame. Inside the sculptor compound, you can admire the equestrian figure of the Major General Antonio Maceo of 16 m high and a collection of 23 metallic elements similar to machetes, symbolizing the rebel spirit of the Cubans.
In the building, you will find different rooms. In the permanent exhibition room, a series of pictures, documents and draws reproducing historical events remembering Antonio Maceo. The protocol room is used for scientific events, decorations, cultural and other types of activities. The private room is merely functional and is used as a resting place.
