The Museo Casa de África House Museum is located in Old Havana city center. It has several African items collections entirely unique to the country on display. African history and culture have a great deal of diversity and are rich in heritage, myths and legends. These cultures have made their way into the world, leaving their mark on Cuba as well.
The museum offers you the chance to go on a tour where you will discover the influence of African culture on that of Cuba by means of an educational show, as well as several exhibitions housing more than 2,000 objects, from valuable wood carvings to small ivory items.
When the museum employees portray some of the Afro-Cuban myths and legends, dressing up as the gods of their tribes and secret societies and mixing with the public, they turn the visit to the museum into a truly fun activity.
It’s worth mentioning the collection of sacred Santería objects compiled by the ethnographer Fernando Ortiz, the slavery collection and the mask collection.
