The Museo Casa de Asia House Museum is located in a Colonial building on Calle Mercaderes Street, in Old Havana. The goal of the museum is to spread the diversity and wealth of Asiatic culture.
Its interior houses a large exhibitions of art pieces, specially Chinese paintings and sculptures.
This institution also recalls the cultural and commercial links between Cuba and Asia since the 17th century.
It’s worth noting the permanent exhibitions where a Manila Galleon filled with merchandise is on display; that of 18th and 19th century Canton porcelain; and that of Treasures of the Orient, made up of several decorative art pieces. It also exhibits collections from the 19th century donated by Fidel Castro from gifts he had received, such as ivory carvings, antique weapons, traditional dresses, goldsmith works, and Chinese and Japanese furniture.
The museum also has several cultural activities on offer, such as temporary exhibitions, workshops, or live shows.
Its library is well-equipped with information concerning Asiatic culture and history, including old and innovative books. It has a large number of copies, especially of Asian economy and history.
