Opened in 2008, the Museo de Navegación (Maritime Museum) is located in the former moat of the Castillo de la Real Fuerza Castle, in the Plaza de Armas Square of Old Havana.
This museum houses interesting exhibits detailing the history of the fortress and Old Havana, as well as its connections with the former Spanish Empire. It’s worth mentioning that huge scale model of the Santísima Trinidad galleon can be found here.
The Giraldilla is another of the marvellous examples to be found in the Navigation Museum. It is the oldest known bronze piece in Cuba. It dates from 1632, carved by Jerónimo Martínez Pinzón dedicated to Inés de Bobadilla, wife of Hernando de Soto seventh governor of Cuba and explorer of La Florida.
