The Museo del Tabaco (Tobacco Museum) is located within an 18th century building that belonged to the Bartolomé Luque family, in Calle Mercaderes Street, Old Havana. The building has been restored as part of the revitalization process of the Casco Histórico de La Habana (Historical Center of Havana).
This museum is dedicated to the preservation and display of collections related to the plantations, production and commercialization of Cuban tobacco. It exhibits a large collection of pipes, leaves and other related items, as well as a collection of lithographic stones and machines of important cigar companies. And it is the only institution of this type present in Cuba, hence its value and the need to safeguard its heritage for the historical legacy.
The museum has three exhibition rooms, two entrance halls and the Casa Especializada del Habano, a small shop where you’ll be able to get different Havana cigars and items for smokers.
The main room is dedicated to the aboriginal idol of tobacco and also shows different pieces obtained in archaeological excavations such as pipes or lithographic stones. It also displays a valuable collection from the Austrian Tobacco Museum and houses a reading and exhibition room.
Although it is a shop, the Casa Especializada del Habano belongs to the museum and has a space dedicated to the production, exhibition and sale of cigars of different brands and types, as well as lighters, pipes and other objects of tobacco nature, whether you are a tobacco lover or not, it is a visit you cannot miss in Old Havana.
