The Museo Numismático (Numismatic Museum) is located in number 305 of the dark Calle Obispo Street of Old Havana, in the island of Cuba.
The museum has several collections of medals, coins and banknotes from all over the world, valued at about 50 million dollars. It is worth mentioning a collection of 1000 gold coins that date from 1860 to 1928; and the complete chronology of Cuban bills from the 19th century to the present.
The beautiful architecture that represents the building where the museum is located is remarkable. It has a facade with a banking typology because in the 20th century it was the headquarters of the Banco Mendoza. It is the only bank in the world dedicated exclusively to numismatics and it has been used to exhibit pieces of unquestionable value, both monetary and historical.
From pirate treasures or gold coins from the New World, to coins and bills from other countries, among which a collection of four or five copies of revolutionary bills, dated September 6, 1869 and signed by the First President of the Republic in Arms, stand out.
The museum has three permanent rooms among which there are about one hundred and sixty thousand pieces from all continents. It also provides library, appraisal and sales services. Its main objective is the safeguarding of heritage and cultural dissemination.
