The Iglesia de San Francisco de Paula Church is one of the most valuable jewels of Havana’s ecclesiastical heritage. It is located in Calle Leonor, off the corner of Calle Desamparados, in the south of Old Havana.
This church is a great sample of the Cuban Baroque of the first half of the 18th century. It has a Latin cross-shaped floor, with a barrel vault and dome. It also has Spanish influences, for example the mixed alcoves in columns on the facade located on each side of a central arch.
Its interior houses wonderful stained glass windows as a kind of altarpiece that adorns the old city. In 2000 it was restored and since then has hosted old music concerts and also functions as a showroom for the works of the most relevant contemporary Cuban acrylic artists.
